Eric Schmidt, O.D.

Dr. Eric E. Schmidt is the founder of Omni Eye Specialists and brings 22 years of expertise to Wilmington. He received his Undergraduate in 1983 from University of Illinois. He received his Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and did an internship and fellowship in Glaucoma. He lectures internationally to his colleagues on Glaucoma, diabetes and retinal disorders. Dr. Schmidt believes that exquisite eye care should be delivered to each individual patient. He wants to meet the needs of each individual patient in a compassionate manner. Dr. Schmidt also embraces the fact that state-of-the-art eye care can be delivered in a comfortable setting right here in Wilmington. The ability to provide cutting-edge eye care in our hometown is paramount to him.

Dr. Schmidt enjoys water sports, outdoor activities and boating, when he is not practicing Optometry. He has three children, Katie and Mackenzie are currently at The University of North Carolina in The School of Journalism and his son, Sam is currently at Hoggard High School, active in baseball. Dr. Schmidt and his wife, Tracey have resided in North Carolina for over 22 years and love it!

Jeffry Gerson, O.D.

Dr. Jeffry Gerson graduated from Indiana University school of optometry in 1997. He then went on to complete a residency at the VA medical center in Kansas City concentrating on ocular disease and low vision. Immediately after leaving the VA, he became faculty at the University of Kansas school of medicine in the department of ophthalmology. Dr. Gerson was responsible for staffing clinics as well as some resident education and development of a low vision clinic. Before entering private practice, he was in several different settings, including 2 ½ years in a retinal referral center where he had access to numerous diagnostic technologies as well as participation in numerous clinical trials.

Dr. Gerson has authored several articles in journals such as “Review of Optometry” and “Optometric Management”, and continues to do so. He also lectures frequently on the topics of retinal disease and systemic disease both here in the US and abroad. He is on numerous advisory boards which often times allows him early access to technology. He is a member of the American Optometric Association as well as the Kansas optometric association which named him their 2008 Young OD of the Year. He is a fellow of both the Academy of Optometry and Optometric Retina Society. Dr. Gerson has two boys, 5 and 11. As a family, the Gerson’s enjoy watching the kids play sports, particularly soccer. They have traveled together extensively and love exploring new places. In his spare time, Dr. Gerson trains for triathlons.

Dr. Cass is a 2000 graduate of the University of Houston, College of Optometry and has a private practice in Beaumont, TX. He is therapeutic and glaucoma certified, is a diplomat of the American Board of Optometry, a member of AOA Contact lens and Cornea Section, the Contact Lens Society of America, and a contact lens clinical researcher for Alcon.

Dr. Cass serves on the board of the TOA and is chair of the TOA’s Health Information Technology Committee. As chair of that committee, he closely follows all health information technology related developments in Texas as well as the federal level. Additionally he serves on two workgroups for the Texas Health Services Authority, which is the state agency created by the governor to oversee the set up Health Information Exchanges in the state of Texas. He is also involved at the national level on the AOA’s health information exchange committee.

Dr Cass is also a consultant for Crystal Practice management and was instrumental in their successful certification for stage 1 meaningful use and is currently working to help Crystal to achieve stage 2 certification. He has qualified for, and received meaningful use incentive payments under the Medicare EHR incentive program each year since the beginning of the program.

Dr. Cass is also a managing member of Optometric Business Solutions, an optometry consulting company, for which he lectures, provides regulatory guidance, health information technology consulting, and practice management consulting to private practices.

Dr. Cass was awarded the Young OD of the year award by the TOA in 2012 and the Entrepreneur of the year award by the Beaumont Texas Chamber of Commerce.

Bruce Onofrey, O.D.
Bruce E. Onofrey, OD, RPh is a 1982 graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry and residency at the Albuquerque Veterans Administration Medical Center. He also has degrees in chemistry and Pharmacy. He recently retired from the Lovelace Medical Center Eye Dept after 25 years where he served as the Chief of Optometry and Vice-chairman of eye services. His most current position is as a clinical professor at the University of Houston and the Executive Director of continuing education programs. His special interests include lectures in general and ocular pharmacology and clinical drug research.

Dr. Onofrey is a frequent contributor to ophthalmic literature. He is the current editor of “Clinical Optometric Pharmacology and Therapeutics”, and the author of “The Ocular Therapeutics Handbook, A Clinical Manual”, both published by Lippincott. He also serves as a contributing editor to “Primary Care Optometry News”. He is an internationally recognized lecturer on the management of ocular disease and the use of pharmaceutical agents.

Lillian Kalaczinski, O.D.
Dr. Lillian Kalaczinski is an Assistant Professor at the Michigan College of Optometry and Chief of Primary Care at the University Eye Center. She completed her undergraduate education at Ferris State University and is a 1998 Graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry. She completed a Primary Care Residency at the Illinois Eye Institute, Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Kalaczinski has broad clinical experience and most recently spent ten years practicing in a Community Health Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she was also Director of Vision Services.
Dr. Kalaczinski has been active in organized optometry since she was a student. She is a Past-President of the Michigan Optometric Association and is active on several MOA Committees. She is a long standing member of the American Optometric Association Health Center Committee and currently serves as Chair where she advocates for full inclusion of Optometry in the Community Health movement.

Dr. Kalaczinski lives in Cascade, Michigan with her husband and two sons.
